WORD
REFLECTIONS
By Greg Giles (member, St. John, Madison)
Have you ever been involved in a group, where two or more people are discussing an issue and one of them is deaf to the concerns of the others? While serving on a church council, we were pondering a very sensitive issue, and I was that person. I refused to listen to the others and said some hurtful things to a fellow member. That night, I could not sleep and realized how wrong I had been. The following Sunday I apologized and asked forgiveness from that person and the other council members. I was grateful in that they accepted my apology and forgave me. Since then I make every effort to listen, and be considerate of others, when forming my opinions and working with others.
These disciples of Jesus, from many nations, customs and different languages came together and like a rushing wind were filled with the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit spoke through each of them, they were all aware what each was saying regarding the wonderful works of God.
What a better world we would live in, if we could listen intently and respect the words and concerns of others.
LET US PRAY
On the day of Pentecost, you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation, by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit. We ask the presence of the Holy Spirit upon us, to unify our voices, as we gather to select our Synod Bishop. In Christ Jesus we pray. Amen.
