First Sunday in Christmas – Rev. Jonathan Steiner (The Holy Innocents)

Rev. Jonathan Steiner (Associate to the Bishop/Director for Evangelical Mission) preaches for the First Sunday in Christmas (December 27, 2020). Pastor Jonathan uses the texts for the Feast Day of the Holy Innocents (December 28). In South Dakota, we remember those who were killed during the Wounded Knee Massacre (December 29, 1890) and the “Dakota 38” trials (December 26, 1862).

A prayer petition to be included in with the prayers of the people during worship
(written by the Synod Justice Table Education group):

Holy God, We remember before you the Holy Innocents, who lost their lives much too early at the hands of a man filled with hate. We also remember the victims of the Wounded Knee Massacre and the Dakota 38 whose lives were unmercifully ended. We ask that you send your loving presence and holy justice to all those who are experiencing violence, hatred, and injustice that they may find comfort and peace.  We pray for those who are filled with hate, that you may touch their hearts and fill them with love.
