1 John 3:18
“Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.”
While growing up, I held a negative view of politicians. I saw them as people who promise things in speeches but do not deliver. To be honest, I still view politicians this way. Today’s scripture calls us to not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. Jesus is the perfect example. Throughout the gospels, we read that Christ always used opportunities given to SHOW people that he loves them. He turned water into wine, healed people, fed multitudes and even raised the dead. He didn’t just tell the hungry that he was sorry they were hungry, but he went further by meeting their need. Love is an action. Today I invite you to consider giving to support our missionary in Nicaragua. Without tangible gifts, it is impossible to do mission work. Also, our siblings in both Cameroon and Nicaragua have multiple needs that can be easily met with monetary gifts. For example, there is a huge need for the building of church roofs in Cameroon, and even church buildings at large.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the material possessions with which you bless us. Help us to be good stewards of those gifts and to share these with those in need. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Today’s Practical step:
Encourage the congregation in which you are a member to devote a month each to missions in Cameroon and Nicaragua. During these months, develop creative ways as a congregation to educate members about the Lutheran Church of Cameroon and Nicaragua.
