Meet Tom Gehring. Tom spent a year at the Wopila House in Mission, SD on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. He was a member of an intentional Christian Community. While there, he worked with Mother Lauren, the ECUSA Priest in charge of the congregations in that area, to provide leadership within the parishes including children’s ministries and preaching. His work and demeanor made quite an impact on the community and, in turn, the community made an impact on him.
At his final Wopila that Tom did (a ceremony in which a person expresses gratitude by giving gifts to the community), Tom was honored with a star quilt. Earlier, Tom was given an Lakota name at a small “hunka” ceremony.
Tom will be starting his seminary career this fall at Luther.
