Why Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.

What it covers?

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness.
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use.
  • How to interact with a person in crisis.
  • How to connect the person with help.
  • How to administer naloxone in the event of an opioid overdose.

Cost? FREE! This event is supported by a generous grant through Lutheran Disaster Response and Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota.

Who’s it for? Rostered Ministers of the South Dakota Synod and Lay Leaders/Lay Staff

October 13th at 12:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. CT

Registration closes September 24 at 5 PM CT. This will allow the facilitators time to enroll you into the course and for you to receive pre-work material.
