Hi there, I’m Peter Tinaglia, Peer Minister of Outreach at the University Lutheran Center at SDSU. I’m writing to tell you what has been going on at the ULC lately. In a normal week the ULC is busy with Peer Minister organizing events, like Harvest table, Wednesday worship, social events and preparing meals. We also host ESL classes, a breast feeding support group and many events for international students. Our big event two weeks ago was our Spring Break trip. Fifteen of us went to San Diego and Tijuana. Our trip was predominantly an immersion trip, to get to know the culture and people, witnessing God’s work in the area and building a connection to those we encountered.
The first few days when we arrived in San Diego we learned about the Latino community in San Diego. One of the places that we went to was Chicano Park. We then went to Tijuana where we stayed at a place for men who have been recently deported. This facility helps men get back on their feet. At Casa Del Migrantes one of the men shared his experience of being separated from his family. This opened our eyes to the experience of deportation. We returned to San Diego and worked in a soup kitchen.
It was great to visit the people of San Diego and Tijuana to see how God is working there. Thank you for your support of Lutheran Campus Ministry which makes these trips possible.
